The Foundation started with a small group of friends wanting to help Michael and Angie de la Houssaye fund the cost of an adaptive bicycle for their oldest son Grant, who was born with a genetic disorder. Grant’s disorder made it impossible for him to achieve every child’s goal of learning to ride a bike. The group’s initial plan was to have a small one-time fundraiser in the form of a Texas Hold-Em poker tournament. The friends easily achieved their modest goal of providing an adaptive bicycle for Grant. What was not anticipated, was that the small one-time event 1n 2009 for Grant’s bicycle would be the beginning of an amazing journey that ultimately became Grant’s Gift Foundation.
Since that first event in 2009, Grant’s Gift Foundation has become a 501(c)(3) non-profit foundation with the mission of helping underprivileged children with special needs achieve a better quality of life and ultimately reach their fullest potential. As the Foundation grew, we decided to partner with Northshore Community Foundation in Covington, Louisiana, to assist us in the administration of our Foundation. The partnership with Northshore Community Foundation has allowed our Foundation to focus on our mission of raising funds and helping children.
